Kourtney SalvarolaBroadneck, pitcher Also the Metro Player of the Year, the junior standout took her game and the No. 1 Bruins (20-0) to the next level by leading them to the Class 4A state championship. Salvarola, a first-team All-Metro selection her first two seasons as well, went 12-0 with a 0.10 ERA and 88 strikeouts this season, which was capped with a 5-2 win over North Carroll to bring home the program's first state crown. She was equally dominant at the plate, batting .619 with seven home runs, six triples, 28 RBIs and 30 runs. Salvarola has made an oral commitment to play at South Florida.

Reese KipleBroadneck The No. 1 Bruins played with heavy hearts after losing their longtime coach, Jim Ware, who died last summer. Kiple, who was an assistant coach the previous two years, took over and guided the team to a 20-0 mark and the program's first Class 4A state championship. Kiple effectively blended a roster of experienced standouts with five new starters, getting the fundamentally sound team to play with confidence. After losing to county rival Chesapeake the past two years in the East regional title game, the Bruins handled the Cougars, 8-2, to advance this season and ultimately win the elusive state crown with a 5-2 win over North Carroll.NameSchoolsCl.Pos.Heather BrownNortheastSr.PLauren GibsonChesapeakeSr.PKayla MartinezArundelJr.PKourtney SalvarolaBroadneckJr.PAdrienne GebeleBroadneckJr.CKelly HickmanChesapeakeSr.IFAlexi MatulaChesapeakeSr.IFAshley ThomasBroadneckJr.IF, PEmily WeimanSpaldingSo.IFBrittany Willingham Glen BurnieSr.IFAmanda HedgepethArundelSr.OFAutumn Taylor Severna ParkSr.OFNote: Team selected by Glenn Graham after consultation with The Baltimore Sun staff and area coaches.
