Player of the Year
Sheronne Vails, ArundelAt 6 feet 5, Vails was a tough matchup for most opponents, and she helped the Wildcats go unbeaten through the Anne Arundel County league and win their seventh straight county championship. Vails carried much of the inside load while 6-foot-3 teammate Simone Egwu was injured for most of the big games, including Riverdale Baptist in which Vails had 18 points, 17 rebounds and five blocks in a losing effort. Averaging 11.9 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.8 blocks, the junior is being recruited by Connecticut, Duke, Georgia and Louisville.
Coach of the Year
Terri Daniels, St. Mary'sA former Saints player who went on to play for Maryland, Daniels took over for long-time coach Harry Dobson and guided the young Saints to the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland B Conference title game. The Saints, who finished 6-20 in the A Conference last year, went 18-8 this year. Although their schedule was not as difficult, the Saints improved throughout the season, winning eight straight before falling to St. Paul's, 38-27, in the title game. In that eight-game streak, they beat Severn, 35-34, after losing to the Admirals by 20 points a month earlier.
