PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Amanda Himmelheber; Severna Park
It would be difficult to find a player more skilled than the Falcons' senior midfielder. Rarely flashy and always businesslike, Himmelheber didn't always get the goal in the end, but she did a lot of the transition work to spark the offense.She finished with nine goals and five assists as the No. 1 Falcons claimed their 16th state championship as well as Anne Arundel and regional titles. Stick skills, game sense and work ethic made her a top recruit and she has committed to play for national champion Maryland.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Jennifer Parks; Broadneck
Parks took over as head coach and kept the No. 6 Bruins on a steady course. They won their first nine games, allowing only one goal, and finished 12-2-1, falling to South River in the regional final.If not for a controversial 1-1 tie with No. 1 Severna Park, the Bruins would have played for the county title. Parks, the Bruins' assistant for three years, said the team was very close and she fostered a feeling of playing for each other.
