Player of the Year: Allyson Carey, John Carroll
When it came to winning possession, no one did it better than Carey. She controlled 74 draws -- an average of four per game -- to give the Patriots an advantage right from the first whistle. Her dominance in the midfield was a major reason behind the Patriots going 18-0, winning their second straight Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference championship and finishing with the No. 1 ranking.
A two-time All-Metro selection, the senior also played a key role on attack with 52 goals and 37 assists, as well as on defense where she could come up with a caused turnover and spark the Patriots' transition game.
Coach of the Year: Krystin Porcella, John Carroll
A former Patriots player, Porcella certainly had plenty of talent on her team, but she had to manage how they handled the great expectations placed on a veteran team that was expected to repeat as IAAM A Conference champion.
In addition to mapping strategies to contend with the one tough team after another, including then-No. 1 Mount Hebron and No. 3 McDonogh (twice), Porcella helped the Patriots deal with the mounting pressure as they went unbeaten through the season. They pulled through a couple of one-goal tournament games before beating McDonogh, 11-6, to cap an 18-0 season.
