Player of the Year
Lindsey Puckett, Fallston
As the daughter of Cougars coach Alice Puckett, much has been expected of the juniorforward since she arrived at Fallston. She hasn't disappointed. Exceptionally skilled with a quick release and precise passes, Puckett led the Cougars to the Class 3A state title.
She had one of her best outings of the season in the state semifinal, scoring three goals in a 5-1 victory over Centennial. Puckett scored nine goals and had six assists, but she added a lot more to the offense as the set-up player, often providing the pass that led to the assist.
A three-time Junior Olympian and a 2007 Futures Elite selection, Puckett plays for the Strikers club team, which won the gold medal in its pool at the U.S. Field Hockey Association's national festival.
Coach of the Year
Alice Puckett, Fallston
In 25 years of coaching the Cougars, Puckett has had teams bigger on talent but not many bigger on heart. The Cougars graduated 12 seniors after reaching the state Class 3A semifinals last season, but they still won the title this fall.
Fallston's 1-0 title victory over Bethesda-Chevy Chase in double overtime gave the Cougars their 10th hockey title in school history. The title also was the 10th for Puckett, who has a career record of 321-62-18. The Cougars had their ups and downs this season, including a 2-1 overtime loss to Rising Sun that kept them out of the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference final, but they hit their stride in the playoffs, outscoring three regional opponents, 23-1.
