Girls lacrosse players to watch

The Baltimore Sun

Maggie Gallagher

C. Milton Wright, midfielder, senior

Gallagher made plays all over the field in a breakout season last spring, leading the Mustangs with 53 goals and contributing 36 draw controls and 23 caused turnovers. An All-Metro second-team selection, she has signed with Penn State.

Elizabeth George

McDonogh, midfield, junior

A tough one-on-one matchup and a force on the draw circle, George contributed 31 goals and 14 assists and controlled 18 draws. Speed and an explosive first step make the Princeton-bound George tough to contain anywhere on the field.

Taylor Hensh

Marriotts Ridge, midfield, senior

Overshadowed a bit last season, the Maryland-bound Hensh will continue to give the Mustangs an edge throughout the midfield with her ability to control the ball and cause turnovers. She also had 51 goals and 21 assists.

Miranda Ibello

Maryvale, midfield, junior

Ibello, an impact player in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference for two years, drew constant face guards last season and still managed to lead the Lions in scoring with 49 goals and 31 assists. An All-Metro second-team selection last year, she is committed to Johns Hopkins.

Kacie Longo

South River, midfield, senior

An All-Metro second-team selection last season, Longo used her speed and endurance to dominate the midfield. She also played a key role in the offense with 43 goals and a team-leading 29 assists. She has signed with Maryland.

Ellie McNulty

Broadneck, midfield, senior

The Bruins' top returning scorer netted 59 goals and dished out 16 assists, but also played a workhorse role up and down the field with her ability to cause turnovers and win ground balls. She is headed to Princeton.

Megan Taylor

Glenelg, goalie, junior

The two-time All-Howard County keeper has no problem coming out of the goal to disrupt the offense. Taylor, who has committed to Maryland, had seven interceptions last season in addition to saving 45 percent of shots and allowing 8.6 goals per game.

Rachel Vander Kolk

Severna Park, goalie, senior

An impact player since she stepped in for an injured teammate to help the Falcons win the 2012 state title, Vander Kolk saved 51 percent of shots and allowed 6.7 goals per game. Tall and athletic with great technique, she is headed for Virginia.

Megan Whittle

McDonogh, attack, senior

A flashy finisher with a creative touch, Maryland-bound Whittle scored critical goals in close games and led the Eagles in scoring with 63 goals and 11 assists. She is the only player returning from last year's All-Metro first-team.

Kristen Yanchoris

Century, defense, junior

One of the area's top mark-up defenders, the All-Metro second-team player uses her quick feet to contain opponents and she doesn't foul often. The Knights' leader in draw controls with 53, she is committed to Loyola.
