After earning the Runner of the Year award for cross country last fall, Gonzalez remained the area's top distance runner in indoor track this winter.
The junior swept both the 1,600 and 3,200 again in the IAAM championship meet last month -- and did so with amazing ease -- proving she has grown into a truly dominant runner who is in a class of her own.
Gonzalez captured the 1,600 in 4:56.04, good enough to win by about 24 seconds, but she put on an even more impressive performance in the 3,200. Her time of 10:38.39 was more than 72 seconds better than the second-place finisher.
Both times would have easily won in any of the public schools' four classifications, and her performance drew loud ovations from the crowd at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex.
Gonzalez has shown her talent in cross country, indoor and outdoor track. The big question is: how good will she be during the rest of her time at Catholic?Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
