Girls Athlete of the Week (Oct. 2, 2013): Isabella Barbieri, Edgewood, soccer

The sophomore forward has been a season-long catalyst for the upstart Rams, who improved to 7-1 on the season with milestone wins over perennial Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference powers C. Milton Wright and Fallston last week. On Sept. 23, the No. 13 Rams opened the week with a 4-3 overtime win against the four-time defending league champion Mustangs with Barbieri scoring twice, including the game-winning goal. Last Wednesday, Edgewood stunned then-No. 12 Fallston, 4-0, with Barbieri scoring three goals and assisting on the other. Edgewood coach Mike Friskey said the Rams have never beaten either team in his nine years with the program. A transfer from Open Bible, Barbieri leads the team with 10 goals and four assists. Others considered: Bridgette Andrzejewski, McDonogh, soccer; Rachel Bauer, Kenwood, cross country; Haley Bowcutt, Annapolis, field hockey; Isabel Griffith, Dulaney, cross country; Eliza Harris, Friends, soccer; Brooke Stevens, Catonsville, field hockey
