On two occasions in Saturday's Class 3A state title game against Mount Hebron, the No. 1 Mustangs (18-1) found themselves in unfamiliar territory trailing by a goal. Both times, Matthai netted tying goals, which helped C. Milton Wright to a 3-2 win and program's first state title. Matthai, in her second year on varsity, also scored in the team's 3-0 semifinal win over Huntingtown on Nov. 4, and she finished with six goals and one assist in five playoff wins. Quick, skilled with her stick and possessing a knack for finish scoring chances, Matthai scored a team-high 16 goals this season and added four assists. Matthai, who maintains a 3.9 grade-point average, also plays basketball and lacrosse for the Mustangs.
