1. McDonogh

Last season: Ranked No. 2

Postseason: Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association champions

Outlook: The Eagles improved in the second half of the indoor season and won the MIAA title. They have depth and talent in just about every part of their lineup.

2. Gilman

Last season: Ranked No. 7

Postseason: MIAA finalist

Outlook: The Greyhounds are another very deep MIAA team. Gilman has the talent to get past McDonogh — the question is whether it can do it in the title meet.

3. Century

Last season: Ranked No. 1

Postseason: Class 2A state champions

Outlook: The Knights aren't quite as tough as last year's state title team, especially because of the graduation of Julian Woods. Still, they'll score plenty in field events and be effective again.

4. Severna Park

Last season: Not ranked

Postseason: 10th in Class 4A

Outlook: Ryan Forsyth has been unbeatable in distance races in the past year — a big reason the Falcons have been so strong.

5. Long Reach

Last season: Ranked No. 5

Postseason: Class 2A finalist

Outlook: The Lightning won the Class 3A state title this winter thanks to speed and depth. If Long Reach can get similar performances outdoors, it will have a fun spring.
