Runner of the Year
Hillary Lee, South River
The junior kept improving and remained one of the metro area's top runners, as well as Anne Arundel County's best. Lee has been a strong runner since her freshman year and played a big role this season in helping South River knock off Severna Park and win the Anne Arundel County and Class 4A East region meets. Lee finished 13th at the state meet.
Coach of the Year
Richard Zmuda, Severn
In his third season, Zmuda had his team run the half-marathon in the Baltimore Running Festival this fall, which got them in shape for the shorter cross country races. Severn turned in a spectacular performance to pull a mild surprise and beat defending champion Institute of Notre Dame in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland B Conference title race. The Admirals placed four runners in the top 10 and rolled to a 21-point victory over IND. All five of the Admirals who scored ended up in the top 13 as Severn won its first cross country championship.
