Girls Athlete of the Week (Dec. 11, 2013): Medinah Spencer, Milford Mill, indoor track( handout, Baltimore Sun / January 1, 1980 )
The senior opened her indoor track season in impressive fashion Saturday, taking first place in the 300-meter dash (42.7 seconds) and second place in the 60-meter hurdles (9.2) at the Coach O High School Invitational at University of Maryland Eastern Shore. In the 60-meter hurdles, her second-place time automatically qualified her for the New Balance national championships. Spencer has been a member of two 800-meter relay teams that have won state titles for Milford Mill -- first as a sophomore in the indoor season and then as a junior in the outdoor season. In November, Spencer received a certificate of recognition by the Baltimore County Public Schools Board of Education for outstanding achievement and contributions. She is still undecided on a college, but plans to major in psychology.
