The Baltimore Sun takes Athletes of the Week nominations from Friday night until Sunday at 6 p.m. Please provide name, school, class, sport, position, team results and the athlete's accomplishments for the week, with statistics by game, and other supporting information. Girls Athlete of the Week (April 8, 2014): Caroline Steele, Severn, lacrosse( Handout / April 7, 2014 )
The standout junior led the No. 4 Admirals (6-2) to three wins last week, including two against ranked Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland opponents. She totaled 13 goals, one assist and seven draw controls. Sharing time between attack and midfield, Steele has 30 goals and three assists in her third season as a starter. She opened last week with four goals and an assist in a 16-6 win over Queen Anne's on March 31. In Wednesday's 9-8 win over then-No. 4 St. Paul's, she finished with four goals on five shots. Steele closed out the week with five goals in a 14-6 win over then-No. 9 St. Mary's. In addition to lacrosse, Steele, who has committed to play lacrosse at Maryland, also plays basketball and soccer.
