Girls Athlete of the Week (Feb. 11, 2014): Katie Parker, Severna Park, swimming( Handout / February 10, 2014 )
After taking two years off from the Severna Park swim team, the senior returned to win two individual events, set a meet record in the 100-yard breast stroke and helped win two relays at last weeks Anne Arundel County swimming championship. In addition to her record of 1 minute, 6.28 seconds in the breast stroke, Parker won the 200 individual medley (2:10.72) and helped win the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay as the Falcons edged Broadneck, 128-126, for the team title. Parker, a veteran of the SPY swim club who regularly qualifies for nationals, won state titles in the 100 breast stroke and the 200 IM as a freshman. She has a 3.4 GPA and will swim next year at James Madison.
