Girls Athlete of the Week (May 6, 2014): Kayli Paugh, Howard, softball( Handout / May 5, 2014 )
The senior pitcher and third baseman led the No. 3 Lions (18-1-1) to four victories last week including a double-header sweep of Reservoir Saturday that clinched the Howard County championship. She pitched two complete games, a 7-1 win over No. 5 River Hill and a 6-0 win over Reservoir, striking out 12 and allowing just two walks. She batted .800 with four home runs -- three in the shutout of Reservoir -- three doubles, eight RBIs and seven runs scored. For the season, Paugh is batting .472 with seven home runs and 23 RBIs. In 57.2 innings pitched, she is 9-1 with a 0.73 ERA and 79 strikeouts. A veteran of the Catonsville Chaos club team, she has a 3.67 GPA and will play softball next year at Hood College.
