Boys Athlete of the Week (May 6, 2014): Chris Navarro, Archbishop Spalding, golf( Handout / May 1, 2012 )
The junior won his second Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association Stroke Play Championship in three years last week. One shot back of Severn's Eric Hall after two rounds, Navarro shot an even par 36 on the front nine at the Baltimore Country Club's West Course before play was halted due to steady rain. The league committee decided to reduce the tournament to 45 holes, giving Navarro a three-stroke win over Hall. In the final round, Navarro quickly made up the one stroke deficit against Hall and then scored a key birdie in the sixth hole on his way to the three-stroke win. Navarro scored rounds of 72, 74 and 36 for a 45-hole total of 182.
Others considered: Brady King, Hereford, baseball; Andrew Spinnenweber, Chesapeake-AA, baseball; Brock Turnbaugh, Hereford, lacrosse; Mikey Wynne, St. Paul's, lacrosse
