Boys Athlete of the Week (April 22, 2014): Nick Esser, Fallston, lacrosse( Handout / April 21, 2014 )
The junior attackman was instrumental in No. 14 Fallston's 3-0 week, highlighted by the team's 7-6 upset win over No. 11 Hereford to claim the Fred Sheckells Memorial tournament on Saturday. Esser, in his second varsity season, scored three goals as the Cougars (6-3) rallied from a 4-2 halftime deficit to beat the Bulls in the championship game. Hereford, which has won five straight Class 3A-2A state championships, had won 52 straight games against public schools. Earlier on Saturday, Esser had five goals and one assist in an 11-3 win over Winters Mill. In Wednesday's 9-8 win over Harford County rival Patterson Mill, the Cougars scored the game's last six goals with Esser contributing one goal and two assists. He now has 15 goals and five assists this season.
