The senior ran 27 times for 239 yards and scored both touchdowns in the Clippers' 14-0 win over Dunbar on Friday for the Class 2A North regional championship. The win sends Patterson (9-3) to the state semifinals for the first time since 2004 and ends a string of 10 regional titles by Dunbar, which had won three straight Class 1A state crowns. Hawkes, a 6-foot, 195-pound fullback, ran for 442 yards and five touchdowns in two regional playoff victories. This fall, he has carried the ball 154 times for 1,629 yards and 21 touchdowns. Hawkes, also a linebacker for the Clippers, has a 2.5 GPA and is drawing attention from Towson, Old Dominion and Salisbury. He will play in the Maryland Crab Bowl.
