Boys Athlete of the Week (Sept. 18, 2013): Riley Collins, Loyola, soccer( Handout photo / September 17, 2013 )
The junior center back anchored the Dons' defense and scored the game-winning goal in double overtime last Friday as No. 2 Loyola defeated DeMatha, who was ranked No. 2 in the country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and No. 1 in The Washington Post. Collins scored off a corner kick from Peter Gagnon with a minute left in the second overtime for a 2-1 victory after Loyola's defense allowed only one goal while playing the second half a man down. That is his only goal this season as the Dons improved to 5-1, and he also has an assist. Collins has a 3.3 GPA and is getting looks from several Division I college programs.
