The Baltimore Sun takes Athletes of the Week nominations from Friday night until Sunday at 6 p.m. Please provide name, school, class, sport, position, team results and the athlete's accomplishments for the week, with statistics by game, and other supporting information. The standout senior won a 9-1 major decision over Fallston's Austin Rutkowski in last Saturday's Class 2A/1A state championship, capturing his first individual state title and leading the Cavaliers to a share of the team title, 94-94, with Kent Island. A four-year starter, Pooton went 44-1 with 30 pins this season and his 142-24 career mark ties him with the program record for wins. He took fifth and fourth at states in his previous two seasons before reaching the top of the podium this year. Pooton, who also started at linebacker for the football team, maintains a 4.0 GPA.
