She's part of a very deep Hereford team that will attempt to repeat as Class 3A state champions. Ashwood's victory in the 1,600 meters in February played a big role in the Bulls' team title at the state championship meet. She also finished in fourth place in the 800-meter race.
Causey is a distance runner who can help the Bulls score points in different events, and she is coming off a solid cross country season that ended with a fourth-place finish in the Class 3A state title race.
Manchester Valley, senior
The leader for the Mavericks in track and cross country, Culp finished second in the Class 1A cross country state championship this fall. She also ran to a second-place finish in the 3,200-meter race at the Class 1A state championship meet last winter.
For the second straight year, Gonzalez won the IAAM title in cross country. Her time of 18 minutes, 19 seconds topped second-place finisher Hannah Mansbach of Glenelg Country by 40 seconds. Gonzalez also won the IAAM title in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters last winter -- setting meet records in both races.
Last winter, Griffith placed second in the 3,200-meter race in the Class 4A state championship meet. She finished fourth in the Class 4A cross country race last month, the top runner from the Baltimore area with a time of 19 minutes, 41.4 seconds.
A versatile performer who should help the Eagles fill some holes, Hatcher won in the 300 meters at the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland championship meet last winter. She also ran on McDonogh's 1,600-meter relay team.
Like Hatcher, Hayes should contribute to the Eagles in multiple events. At last winter's IAAM title meet, she placed second in the 300-meter dash behind Hatcher, and she can also run in the 500 meters and 1,600-meter relay.
River Hill, sophomore
Recently, Krein has developed into a strong distance runner for the Hawks. She ended a solid cross country season with a second-place finish in the Class 3A state championship meet and should spark River Hill this winter.
Mount Hebron, senior
Quietly emerging as one of the area's better distance runners, Yep finished sixth in the state in the Class 3A state meet in cross country last month. Yep ran to a third-place finish in the 3,200 meters at the Class 3A state championship meet in February.
