The top two point-earning countries from each pool and one wild card country will then advance to play in Sunday's singles matches, in which countries will be re-seeded Nos. 1 through 5 based on total points earned in the fourball matches.

Two points will be awarded per match (two for a win or one point to each team for a halve). The total cumulative points from Thursday through Sunday will determine the champion.

FAQs

Why isn't Michelle Wie representing the United States? Although she's one of the top players in the world right now, when the top four players from each country were determined by world rankings, she wasn't one of the top four Americans in the rankings at the cutoff point (March 31 after the Kia Classic). She was behind Stacy Lewis, Lexi Thompson, Paula Creamer and Cristie Kerr.

When were the countries determined? The final field of eight countries were determined by the combined Rolex World Rankings of the top four players from each country at the conclusion of the 2013 season (Nov. 24, 2013).

Without Wie playing, who are some of the top players to watch? Inbee Park was No. 1 in the world before Lewis moved past her. Last year she won the first three majors of the year on the LPGA Tour. Anna Nordqvist is a major winner who leads Sweden. Karrie Webb of Australia is one of the top players of all-time. And Yani Tseng is another former No. 1 player in the world leading Chinese Taipei.

Why Caves Valley? Well, it's hosted majors on the PGA Senior Tour and the NCAA championships for men and women. It's one of the top golf courses in the region, if not the entire United States. It should pose a challenge to the 32 golfers in the field.

Will this format catch on? Team competitions like the PGA's Ryder Cup and President's Cup and the LPGA's Solheim Cup have been popular with fans and players. There's no reason this event shouldn't be the same.

When will it be played again? In 2016 at Rich Harvest Farms Golf Club in Sugar Grove, Ill.
