Doug Fister came to the Tigers with the lowest run support in the American League. If anyone can win with Miguel Cabrera, Brennan Boesch and Alex Avila missing from the lineup behind him for various reasons, it's him.

In fact, he did. With a wicked dart to his fastball and strong command of his secondary pitches, Fister five-hit the Rays over seven innings, sending the Tigers to their sixth win in seven games with a 2-0 shutout of the Rays Thursday afternoon at Tropicana Field.

The win took the four-game series in favor of the Tigers, who moved 6 1/2 games ahead of the Indians atop the AL Central and seven games up on the third-place White Sox.
