The San Francisco 49ers topped the Detroit Lions 27-19 on Sunday night at Candlestick Park in San Francisco.

Niners' quarterback Alex Smith was 20-31 for 226 yards and two touchdown passes, both were to tight end Vernon Davis.

The first came just 2:35 into the ballgame, when Smith found Davis for a 21-yard score. Following the point after, San Francisco led 7-0. Smith's second touchdown pass to Davis came with 3:04 left in the game.  The 23-yard score made it 27-12 San Francisco.

Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford struggled in the first half, going just 7-16 for 67 yards and was picked off once.  He improved in the second half and threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Pettigrew with 1:29 left to play in the fourth quarter to make it a one-possession game.  However the Lions were unable to recover an on-side kick and the 49ers ran out the clock to seal the victory.

Lions placekicker Jason Hanson made four of five field goals, missing a 40-yarder later in the first half.  The kick hit the right upright.

The Lions fall to 1-1 on the season and will take on the Titans in Tennessee next week.
