The Detroit Lions have their newest rookie.
The Lions selected Nick Fairley, a defensive tackle out of Auburn as the 13th pick in the 2011 NFL draft. Prior to the draft, the Lions said they wanted to bulk up the defense and both the offensive and defensive lines.
In 2010, he became the 2nd player from Auburn to win the Lombardi Award. During the 2011 BCS National Championship Game against the Oregon Ducks, Fairley had five tackles, three behind the line of scrimmage, a sack and a forced fumble earning the defensive player of the game award.
Cam Newton, a quarterback out of Auburn, was selected as the overall #1 pick in the draft.
