LOS ANGELES—Former Major League pitcher Jose Lima has died of a massive heart attack. The 37-year-old Lima died at his home in Los Angeles.
Lima played for six major league teams over the course of his 13-year career, including time with the Detroit Tigers from 1994-1996. His career record was 89-102 with a 5.26 ERA. Lima was also an All-Star during the 1999 season when he played for Houston.
Lima was known for a fiery attitude and was often talking to himself on the mound. He last played for the Mets in the major leagues in 2006. Since then, he had appearances in the Korean Baseball League, Dominican Winter Leagues and the Independent Golden League in Los Angeles.
