Vick, Goodell to meet regarding suspension
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick will get a chance to explain himself to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, although no date has been set for a meeting.
It's expected Goodell will ask Vick whey he lied to him at the draft April 28 when he denied any involvement in dogfighting. In fact, he told Goodell, "I love dogs," according to the New York Daily News.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed that Goodell expects to meet with Vick "at some point in the future" but nothing has been scheduled. Aiello would not say if the meeting would take place before Vick is sentenced Dec. 10, but that appears likely.
Goodell suspended Vick indefinitely Friday, shortly after Vick's signed guilty plea was submitted to the court in Richmond, Va. Vick is expected to be sentenced to 12 to 18 months in prison and then face a more definitive timetable on an NFL suspension.
It is anticipated Goodell will suspend Vick for at least one season after his release from prison, which means the earliest he could play is 2010.
• Broncos // Running back Travis Henry's child support judgments won't put him in line for disciplinary action by the NFL. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that court documents in a Georgia child support case show Henry, 28, has fathered nine children by nine women in four southern states and has been ordered to pay support for seven of them. He also had to borrow money from his former team, the Tennessee Titans, to fulfill one of those judgments, according to court records. The league has clamped down on off-field misbehavior under Goodell, but the newly implemented personal conduct policy "generally covers criminal violations, not civil matters" such as Henry's, an NFL spokesman said.
• Bengals // Defensive end Frostee Rucker is appealing a proposed one-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, the result of settling a domestic violence case in April. He is one of 10 Bengals who faced criminal charges during a 14-month span. His case resulted from a 2005 incident when he was at Southern California.
