The Norfolk Admirals began a two-game Scope AHL series against Albany by beating the Devils 2-1 before 4,406 fans Friday night, capturing an overtime shootout 2-0.
Winning goalie John Gibson made 31 saves and didn’t allow a goal to four shooters in the tiebreaker, and the Admirals (3-1-0-1) won on shootout goals by Joseph Cramarossa and Devante Smith-Pelly.
Steven Whitney scored 7:19 into the first period for Norfolk.
The Devils (2-1-0-1), New Jersey's AHL affiliate, are coached by a face familiar to many at Scope: ECHL Admirals standout Rick Kowalsky.
