ADMIRALS' LOG • With a 26-save shutout of Manchester on Saturday night at Scope, Dustin Tokarski joined teammate Riku Helenius as the only Norfolk Admirals (AHL) goaltenders to pitch a shutout for their first American Hockey League win. Helenius whitewashed the Bridgeport Sound Tigers last February 6 at Norfolk Scope Arena. • Brandon Bochenski's goal on Saturday night was his 12th game-winning goal as an Admiral, tying him with Ajay Baines, Casey Hankinson and Matt Keith for the most game-winning goals in Norfolk Admirals (AHL) history. • Bochenski is the only Admiral with multiple goals this season and his 14 shots on goal are tied for the tenth most in the AHL in the young season. • With an assist on Bochenski's goal on Friday night, Blair Jones recorded his 98th career point as an Admiral and tied Shawn Thornton and Pavel Vorobiev for tenth on the all-time Norfolk (AHL) Admirals scoring list. Jones is only two points away from becoming the tenth player to record 100 points in his AHL Admirals career. • LW Radek Smolenak made his return to the Admirals on Saturday night after being claimed on waivers by the Admirals' parent club, the Tampa Bay Lightning, from the Chicago Blackhawks. Smolenak finished third in goals (24), fourth in points (49) and tied for fifth in assists (25) with the Admirals last season. • Norfolk out-shot Manchester 81-49 in the two-game set at Scope. • The Admirals killed off all nine Manchester power play attempts this weekend. • The Admirals are now 0-15 on the power play in their first three games of the 2009-10 season. • With a 2-1 loss to Manchester on Friday night at Scope, Norfolk fell to 5-4-1-0-0 in home openers in their ten-season American Hockey League history.

SCOUTING REPORT The Albany River Rats (2-1-0-0) are first up in the Admirals' sights this week with a Wednesday tilt. The River Rats offense is clicking at nearly five goals per game thus far. Joining perennial River Rats scoring threat Jerome Samson (2+5) at the top of the scoring charts are rookies Drayson Bowman (3+2) and Zach Boychuk (1+4). Top goaltender Justin Peters has had a rocky start to the season with a 4.00 goals-against average and .860 save percentage. The River Rats are off until the meeting with Norfolk on Wednesday.

The Admirals will take on East Division newcomer the Syracuse Crunch (1-2-0-0) for the first time in eight seasons on Friday night. The Crunch picked up their first win of the season on Saturday with a 6-1 thumping of the Adirondack Phantoms. Veteran forward Pascal Pelletier (2+4) leads the way offensively for the Crunch. Returning in goal are Columbus Blue Jackets prospects Kevin Lalande and Dan LaCosta. The Crunch play the Rochester Americans tonight and are then off until meeting the Admirals on Friday.

The Admirals will then turn their attention to a familiar foe on Saturday as they do battle with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The Sound Tigers now sit atop the Atlantic Division standings at 3-0-0-0. The Sound Tigers are deep in goal with returnee Nathan Lawson, former Phantoms netminder Scott Munroe and rookie Mikko Koskinen all having played well so far this season. The Admirals went 5-2-1-0 against the Sound Tigers last season. After defeating the Binghamton Senators earlier today, the Sound Tigers are off until facing Norfolk on Saturday.
