Marc-Andre Gragnani scored on a power play 36 seconds into overtime, giving the Charlotte Checkers a 3-2 win Wednesday over the Norfolk Admirals before 2,738 at Scope.
The Admirals (25-26-4-1) got goals from Devante Smith-Pelly and Patrick Maroon.
The Checkers, who are the Carolina Hurricanes' top affiliate and are fourth in the Western Conference, improved to 34-19-2-3.
The Admirals have 55 points, seven fewer than the Connecticut Whale, which holds the eighth and final playoff position in the Eastern Conference.
