I love weeks like these in Chicago. I call them the "at least you know where you stand" weeks.
A nice test for the Bulls on Tuesday night in Miami and a friendly reminder—in case it wasn't already a loud voice screaming from your gut—"We can't beat these guys!"
Yes, we welcome back Derrick Rose. Yes, he looks amazing and is going to be so much fun to watch. But let's not kid ourselves—we're not the Heat. Or. Better yet, here's a great idea—let's kid ourselves! Yes, let's.
Let's kid ourselves that on Monday night the Bears will march right into Lambeau Field and steal one from those Green Bay Packers! Because somehow, while we've rebuilt our offensive line, they have done the same. And, they also have Aaron Rodgers and now a running game with Eddie Lacy!
And we have … Josh McCown!
Please let me know when you've had enough kidding. I have.
Here's some more kidding. Has anyone noticed that since Northwestern dropped the big one to Ohio State, there haven't been any notable Northwestern alums/media stars around town, taking it all in?
No more Mike Greenberg, no Michael Wilbon, no ESPN "College Gameday." Where oh where did everyone go?
You see, it's like that. People are fickle, Northwestern fans. So when you're ready to topple the big boys, I'm sure they will all come running back, claiming loyalty to their alma mater.
In the meantime, enjoy your peace and quiet!
I'm afraid Paul Konerko may be enjoying some peace and quiet soon as well. I hate it—repeat, hate it—when it ends like this. Brian Urlacher redux. But with the signing of Cuban slugger Jose Abreu, what to do with Konerko. DH? We already have Adam Dunn. It doesn't look good, and he is my favorite White Sox of all time.
If it does end, I want Paulee to know I loved watching him in 2005, and every year. He was the very essence of a quiet leader. He was the quintessential White Sox, and I will miss him greatly.
And I'm not kidding.
