Every quarterback needs a best buddy, right? The guy he can count on even when his offensive line flops worse than LeBron James. Well, three QBs on some of the best teams in the NFL—Peyton Manning, Colin Kaepernick and Tom Brady—look like they each have a new best friend this season, and that can lead to huge fantasy points.
Peyton Manning and Wes Welker
If Week 1 is any indication, fantasy opponents of either of these two should beware. Welker was his usual self, just in a different uniform than we are used to seeing: nine catches, 67 yards, two touchdowns. And the next three games look very favorable for this combo. The Broncos play at the N.Y. Giants, then host Oakland and Philadelphia, who have weak defenses.
Colin Kaepernick and Anquan Boldin
Ah, the wily veteran receiver and the talented young quarterback. On paper it may not look like the perfect match, but these two really look in sync. Boldin and Kaepernick were on fire in their opener against Green Bay. Boldin had an-eye popping 13 catches, 208 yards and a touchdown. This combination should continue to shine even in the NFC West. Boldin is Cap's go-to guy, and this should not change for some time as fellow receivers Michael Crabtree and Mario Manningham are hurt.
Tom Brady and Danny Amendola
The new Wes Welker in New England is Danny Amendola. He had 10 catches (14 targets) and 104 yards. Ability wise and fit these two should be a great. The concern with Amendola is potential injuries; he's doubtful for Thursday's game against the N.Y. Jets. Yet if he stays healthy, he will put up Welker-like numbers.
They're not new, but …
That said, for fantasy purposes, Marshall is much better than Cutler. The reasons are simple: Marshall knows how to fend off defenders, get open, hang on to the ball, get into the end zone, and consistently be the only player who Cutler can confidently get the ball to.
