No. 5 Maryland (4-1) at No. 8 Syracuse (4-1)
When: Sunday, 1 p.m.
Outlook: The defending national champion Terps take on their third top-10 opponent this season when they travel to the Carrier Dome on Sunday. Maryland leads the series 21-1 and has won nine straight games against the Orange, including 17-7 last season when attacker Megan Whittle (McDonogh) had seven goals and goalie Megan Taylor (Glenelg) made 18 saves. Whittle leads the Terps in scoring for the fourth straight year with 23 goals and four assists, but she has plenty of help, especially from Jen Giles (Mount Hebron) with 15 goals and seven assists and Caroline Steele (Severn) with 11 goals and four assists. Taylor, last year’s National Goalkeeper of the Year, is back in the net with a young defense coming together in front of her. Despite the lopsided series, Syracuse is always dangerous. The Orange average 18.4 goals per game while the Terps score 17.4. Syracuse rebounded from a 17-16 upset by then-No. 11 Virginia to beat No. 3 Florida, 17-15, Wednesday. The Terps, who suffered their loss to North Carolina, beat Florida, 16-14, three weeks ago. Emily Hawryschuk, with 15 goals and one assist, leads a balanced Orange attack.
