Dene' DiMartino scored three of her career-high-tying four goals in the second half Wednesday to lead No. 9 Johns Hopkins past visiting Boston University, 11-8.
The Blue Jays tied the school Division I record for wins to start the season with their eighth straight. The Terriers, who have yet to play a home game this season, fell to 1-5.
The first 40 minutes were tight until Hopkins strung together four straight goals to take a 10-6 lead with just over five minutes to play. With the game tied for the sixth time at 6, Jen Cook (McDonogh) scored her second free-position goal at 19:34 to start the 4-0 run. Less than two minutes later, Jenna Reifler (Roland Park) took a pass from Sammy Cermack and scored the first of her two goals.
After some end-to-end action, DiMartino scored to end a nearly seven-minute drought at the 10:02 mark for her fourth of the day. She dodged from the top and scored with four defenders surrounding her to push the lead to 9-6.
George Washington 18, Mount St. Mary's 8: The host Colonial (4-3) went on an 8-0 run in the first half and handed the Mount (1-5) its third straight loss.
Steph Rurkowski made 17 saves for Mount St. Mary's, and Allie Rash had four goals for George Washington.
Goucher 14, Frostburg State 12: The host Gophers (4-3) got three goals each from Erin Reifsnyder, Megan Meluskey and Anneke Ossorio to beat the Bobcats (0-6).
Goucher built a 9-5 halftime lead. Megan Hart (Howard) and Ellie Garner had three goals each for Frostburg State.
McDaniel 16, Elizabethtown 1: Julia Jacobs (St. Mary's) had six goals and an assist to power the Green Terror (3-0) past the host Blue Jays (0-3).
Washington College 17, St. Lawrence 10: The Shorewomen (2-1), led by Katherine Vincent with four goals, scored the final six goals to beat the Saints (1-2) at the Spring Fling in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Carly Eisenbrandt (Towson) had a hat trick to become the 12th Shorewoman to score 100 career goals.
Catholic 15, St. Mary's 9: The visiting Cardinals (3-1) finished strong with a 4-0 run against the Seahawks (2-4).
The loss ended a two-game winning streak for St. Mary's, which was led by Christy Bishop (Glenelg) with a hat trick.
Stevenson 19, Elizabethtown 8: Colin Dabney had three goals and the host Mustangs (4-1, 2-0 Commonwealth Conference) won their third straight, beating the Blue Jays (2-2, 0-1).
Goucher 13, Messiah 8: Max Roach and Steve Patterson each had three goals and the host Gophers (2-4) won their second straight, beating the Falcons (0-4).
Frostburg State 15, St. Vincent 3: The visiting Bobcats (5-1) took a 7-0 lead over the Bearcats (0-5) after the first quarter.
Spenser Love (Winters Mill) led the Frostburg State offense with four goals.
No. 1 North Carolina 20, Elon 5: Taylor George (Broadneck), Sam McGee (Bryn Mawr) and Carly Reed each scored three goals as the host Tar Heels (8-0) dominated the Phoenix (3-4).
No. 4 Florida 21, Winthrop 5: Shannon Gilroy had five goals and the host Gators (8-1) won their eighth straight, beating the Eagles (2-4).
No. 12 Penn State 19, Rutgers 7: Kelly Lechner had five goals to power the Nittany Lions (4-3) past the host Scarlet Knights (3-4).
No. 14 Virginia 22, William & Mary 9: Liz Colgan (Notre Dame Prep) had five saves and Courtney Swan had four goals and four assists to lead the Cavaliers (3-4) past the host Tribe (1-4).
