The week ahead for state men's lacrosse teams

No. 1 Maryland (7-0)

Coming up: At No. 7 North Carolina, Saturday, 2 p.m.

Comment: The Terps have won 39 of the 62 games against their Atlantic Coast Conference rivals, but the Tar Heels have won five of the last seven meetings. Junior defenseman Casey Ikeda and freshman short-stick defensive midfielder John Belz (Calvert Hall) recorded the first assists of their careers in Friday's 12-10 win against Villanova.

No. 2 Loyola (7-1)

Coming up: Vs. Lafayette, Saturday, 1 p.m., Ridley Athletic Complex

Comment: The Greyhounds defeated the Leopards in 1939, the programs' only contest. With three goals in Wednesday's 10-9 decision over Georgetown, junior attackman Nikko Pontrello has a team-high six hat tricks this season.

No. 10 Johns Hopkins (5-1)

Coming up: At No. 8 Virginia, Saturday, 4:30 p.m.

Comment: The Blue Jays are 56-28-1 and are riding a three-game winning streak against the Cavaliers. Senior attackman Brandon Benn's streak of 21 consecutive games with a goal, which was tied for the third-longest active streak in Division I, ended when he was shut out on four shots in Saturday's 12-10 loss to then-No. 11 Syracuse.

No. 20 Towson (6-2)

Coming up: Vs. Delaware, Saturday, 7 p.m., Johnny Unitas Stadium

Comment: The Tigers own a 37-17 advantage against the Blue Hens and have won five of the last seven meetings. The starting attack of seniors Thomas DeNapoli and Max Siskind and freshman Joe Seider has combined score 44.7 percent of the team's goals and 38.6 percent of its assists.

Mount St. Mary's (0-7)

Coming up: Vs. UMBC, Saturday, noon, Waldron Family Stadium; Vs. Robert Morris, Tuesday, 4 p.m., Waldron Family Stadium

Comment: The Mountaineers open Northeast Conference play against the Colonials, who have lost three of the last five meetings. Freshman midfielder Mikey Ripa recorded two goals and one assist in his first career start in Saturday's 9-6 loss to Drexel.

Navy (3-4)

Coming up: Vs. Colgate, Saturday, noon, Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium

Comment: The Midshipmen are 11-6 in this series, but the Raiders have won four of the last seven games. With 10 faceoff wins in Saturday's 13-2 loss to then-No. 18 Lehigh, freshman Brady Dove has posted 94 wins, overtaking Robby Battle (92) for 14th place on the program's career faceoff wins list.

UMBC (3-4)

Coming up: At Mount St. Mary's, Saturday, 12 p.m.

Comment: The Retrievers have yet to lose in 20 meetings with the Mountaineers. Junior defenseman Mike Dahl's nine ground balls and six caused turnovers have exceeded last year's totals of seven ground balls and zero caused turnovers.
