The week ahead for state men's lacrosse teams

Coming up: Vs. Towson, Friday, 5 p.m.; Vs. No. 16 Delaware, Tuesday, 5 p.m.

Comment: The Blue Jays have dropped just one season opener in the past 10 years. The Blue Hens are 2-0, but overlooking the Tigers is a risky proposition.

NO. 10 MARYLAND (0-0)

Coming up: Vs. 19 Hartford, Saturday, 1 p.m.

Comment: The last time the Terps lost a season opener was 1993, when Duke prevailed, 9-5. A new-look defense and a retooled offense make their debut against a Hawks squad that is the preseason favorite to win the America East Conference.

LOYOLA (0-0)

Coming up: Vs. No. 16 Delaware, Saturday, 1 p.m.

Comment: The Greyhounds have opened the season with wins in each of their past two attempts after dropping five straight season openers. Loyola's goaltending will take center stage in an early test against a Blue Hens team that is the preseason favorite to capture the Colonial Athletic Association.

NAVY (1-0)

Coming up: At Jacksonville, Sunday, 4 p.m.

Comment: Twelve of the Midshipmen's 14 goals in a 14-7 win against VMI on Saturday came from their starting attack. A little more diversity would be an asset against a Dolphins team that ledTowson 8-6 in the third quarter before falling, 12-10.

TOWSON (1-0)

Coming up: At No. 4 Johns Hopkins, Friday, 5 p.m.

Comment: The Tigers got off to a good start with a road victory over a competitive Jacksonville squad. But are they prepared to end a 16-game losing skid to the Blue Jays?

UMBC (0-0)

Coming up: Vs. Robert Morris, Saturday, 1 p.m.

Comment: The Retrievers are eager to demonstrate how far their youth can take them. But the Colonials are feeling good after edging Bellarmine, 9-8, in last Saturday's season opener for both teams.
