Digest (May 8): Terps' Whittle, Hensh drafted in women's pro lacrosse league

Seniors Megan Whittle (McDonogh) and Taylor Hensh (Marriotts Ridge) were selected in the Women's Professional Lacrosse League draft on Monday night. Whittle was taken fifth overall by the Upstate Pride, while Hensh was drafted 17th overall by the New England Command. The WPLL comprises five teams — the Baltimore Brave, New England Command, New York Fight, Philadelphia Fire and the Upstate Pride — and is set to begin its inaugural season this summer.

Women's college basketball: Maryland hired Karen Blair as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Blair coached at Virginia Commonwealth for the past three seasons. ... Maryland's Aja Ellison, who will be a graduate transfer with one season of eligibility remaining, is transferring to Texas A&M.

College baseball: Salisbury's Connor Reeves (John Carroll) was named D3baseball.com Pitcher of the Week. ... Johns Hopkins senior pitcher Alex Ross was named the Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Year

College softball: Towson seniors Megan Dejter, Daria Edwards, Brook Miko and Kendyl Scott along with junior Nicole Stockinger were named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association team. Dejter, Miko and Scott were named to the first team. Edwards and Stockinger earned second-team recognition. ... Mount St. Mary's freshman Amanda Berkley was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week.
