Carol (Schmoeller) Hatton, a standout at Catonsville and St. Mary's College, will be part of the Greater Baltimore Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame Class of 2018. The induction ceremony will take place Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the Hillendale Country Club. Hatton will be one of 10 inductees. The others are Henry Ciccarone Jr., Megan Huether Nicotra, Tiffany Schummer Hoffman, Frank Kelly III, Jackie Milani, Garett H. Seivold, Kristen Waagbo Skiera, David H. Tickner and Charles "Chooch" Turner Jr.
Men's college baskeball: Haverford overcame an 11-point halftime deficit to edge McDaniel 59-57. Josh McWilliams led the Green Terror (2-11) with 13 points. ... American defeated Loyola Maryland, 7-65 as the host Eagles (4-12, 1-4 Patriot League) led by as many as 19 points and beat the Greyhounds (4-12, 2-3). The win ended a six-game losing streak. Andre Walker added 16 points, six rebounds and four steals for Loyola, while Andrew Kostecka while scored 13 points off the bench to go with six boards, three assists and three steals.
Women's college basketball: Johns Hopkins defeated Bryn Mawr, 75-42, with career nights from Elise Moore (15 points) and Kenz Wilkinson (12 points, 10 rebounds). ... American defeated Loyola Maryland, 71-56. Stephanie Karcz set a school record for rebounds in a game with 21, but the host Greyhounds (3-13, 1-4 Patriot League) fell to the Eagles (12-4, 5-0). Karcz also had 12 points for her fourth-straight double double. Izzy Therien led Loyola with 19 points. ... Navy turned back Holy Cross, 65-58. The visiting Mids (13-3, 3-2 Patriot League) were down by seven before going on a 22-10 run in the second quarter. The Crusaders (7-9, 2-3) have lost their last two games. Hannah Fenske had a game-high 24 points and Taylor Dunham had 21 points.
Women's college lacrosse: Towson signed nine players to national letters of intent for the 2019 season. The incoming class is made up of attackers Molly Lynch (John Carroll), Julia Porter and Kerri Thornton along with midfielders Taylor Gehen, Kerri Liucci, Nicole Liucci, Kamryn McNeal and Sarah Rhoads. Emilee Downs is the lone defender in the group. ... Junior Francesca Whitehurst (Roland Park) was named one of the captains for Georgetown along with seniors Sarah Cheney and Hannah Seibel.
Men's college lacrosse: US Lacrosse Magazine released the 2018 Preseason Player of the Year finalists watch list this week, and Salisbury defenseman Kyle Tucker was named as one of the four finalists. Tucker was named the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association Defensive Player of the Year in 2017.
Women's college ice hockey: A day after being named the Middle Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, Stevenson junior Caitie Darosa was named the United Collegiate Hockey Conference Goalie of the Week.
Navy athletics: Athletic director Chet Gladchuk was recently honored with two awards. Gladchuk was named the Business Leader of the Year by the Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce and the Commodore Barry Award by the Navy League Philadelphia Council. ... David Forney, a sophomore guard on the football team, was named to the USA Today All-Bowl Team.
