Salisbury women's lacrosse coach Jim Nestor was honored as the Chesapeake Region Coach of the Year by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, the organization announced Monday.
Nestor guided the Sea Gulls to the national championship game for the fifth time last season and their 10th straight Capital Athletic Conference championship. The team spent six weeks atop the IWLCA Top 20 coaches poll and finished the season ranked No. 2. Salisbury started the season with 22-straight wins, matching a school record for consecutive wins and most wins in a single season.
This is the sixth time Nestor has been recognized by the IWLCA. He was named Chesapeake Region Coach of the Year from 2004 to 2008 and the South Atlantic Region Coach of the Year in 2009. He also was selected as the 2005 IWLCA Division III Coach of the Year.
In his 11 seasons at the helm, Nestor has a record of 198-24, including a 68-2 mark in CAC play. Including postseason play, the Sea Gulls will head into the 2013 season with an 87-game winning streak against conference opponents.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
