Make no mistake, every Shocker fans wants the team to play the exact same way they did against the Bears: Defensively relentless, offensively dominant and simply impressive in a 29-point win. But if they rest on that past success, it could present a problem. Doubtful that happens Wednesday night.
Wichita State topped Drake in Des Moines back in January 75-63.
"They've beaten Indiana State, they've beaten Creighton - they are obviously pretty good," head coach Gregg Marshall said. "When we went in to Drake, and got that win I said, 'good - we will pick up a game against some people.'"
"It's hard to win on the road in college basketball - look at the bottom score of some home games and see how many times those teams win, it's like 75-80 percent."
He's right - Drake is pretty salty. They have beaten Creighton and are coming off an overtime loss to Evansville.
"I expect this to be another tought game like what we’ve been dealing with in our last two games with another really good team with really good players,” Drake head coach Mark Phelps. “They have some really good players and it seems like they have their groove back."
The Shockers have the number one defense in the Missouri Valley Conference and hold the best rebounding stats against teams. Drake is last in scoring defense.
