More expansion news: It was a rough week for the Colonial Athletic Association. First the league lost Virginia Commonwealth to the Atlantic-10, then it was forced to watch as Old Dominion announced that it was leaving the CAA for Conference USA. VCU, which was coming off a NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four appearance in 2011, will make the move starting in July 2012. Meanwhile ODU, which restarted its football program up three years ago, will jump into the Football Bowl Subdivision with its move on July 2013.

Clark reportedly out at AF: Air Force tailback Asher Clark has reportedly been kicked out of school as a result of an investigation into drug use. According to The Gazette of Colorado, the senior, who was the school's second-leading all-time rusher with 3,594 rushing yards, was involved in an ongoing investigation involving illegal drug use on campus. The investigation involved 31 cadets, some which were reportedly involved in intercollegiate athletics. The school confirmed that Clark was no longer enrolled at Air Force but would not confirm the story.
OSU reports minor violations: Ohio State university acknowledged on Friday a Plain Dealer (Cleveland) report that the school had committed 46 secondary NCAA violations in 21 sports since last May 30. Some of the violations go from the mundane – assistant coach Mike Vrabel committed a violation for using smokeless tobacco on the sidelines – to the silly. Urban Meyer reportedly said "good luck" to a recruit at a football game. Considering the school's history with the NCAA and football, it appears they are erring on the side of caution with everything.
'Bama opener: Alabama and West Virginia will meet for the first time on the football field when the two programs open the 2014 season in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta, officials announced. The game is scheduled to be played on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. It will be the third straight BCS-caliber season opener for Alabama. The Crimson Tide will play Virginia Tech in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in 2013. Alabama kicks off the 2012 season with a matchup against Michigan at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
