What's at stake: Towson surprised everyone to win the Colonial Athletic Association last year after being picked to finish last in preseason polls. Now the pressure is on the Tigers to live up to their billing as the preseason favorite in 2012. Picking up an early conference win on national television after their season-opening loss at Kent State will be huge. It won't be easy against the Tribe, who has tamed the Tigers over the years, including a 3-0 win streak in Towson. But the Tigers have their own streak: undefeated in their past nine home openers.
Key matchup: In their past two games the Tribe's defensive front has had problems getting to the quarterback, registering a single sack. If the Tigers' offensive line can win the battle in the trenches, after giving up four sacks against Kent State, it will give QB Grant Enders (Old Mill) a chance to crack a secondary that is only giving up 167 yards through the air and has yielded one touchdown.
Player to watch: Sophomore running back Terrance West (Northwestern) made his name known in the Football Championship Subdivision last season after scoring 29 touchdowns and winning the Jerry Rice Award as the nation's top freshman. But despite scoring twice in a 41-21 loss to Kent State, 2012 got off to a slow start after West was bottled up for 36 yards on 14 carries, well below his 117.6 average from 2011. Look for the CAA first-teamer to get his 2012 campaign back on track against the Tribe, who West gashed for 141 yards on 23 carries and three touchdowns last season.
