No. 17 Towson (2-3, 1-1 CAA) vs. Maine (2-3, 1-1 SEC)
Time: 7 p.m.
Series: Maine leads 6-4
What's at stake: The Tigers are desperate to snap their two-game losing streak. After giving then No. 4-ranked LSU everything it could handle in a 38-22 loss, and then suffering a tough 13-10 conference defeat at the hands of rival No.5 James Madison, Towson needs to get back in the win column. At 1-1 in the CAA, the Tigers' hopes of defending their conference championship will suffer a massive blow if their losing streak continues. The good news is the Tigers will play at home where they are 2-0. The bad? Maine is coming off a big win at Delaware and has defeated the Tigers five out of the past six times.
Key matchup: When the Tigers and Black Bears faced off last year, Towson came out on top with a 40-30 win. One of the keys to that win was the Tigers' ability to shut down the run. They limited Maine to just 85 yards on the ground. Towson, by comparison, rushed for 334. Maine enters Saturday's game seventh in the conference in rushing yards per game with 172 and has scored five rushing touchdowns. Look to see if the Tigers can repeat their dominance on the line from last year. If they can, it will go a long way toward helping them secure their second CAA win.
Player to watch: Junior linebacker Telvion Clark didn't have his usual standout performance against James Madison. The Virginia Tech transfer had just six tackles against the Dukes. Clark leads the team with 34 tackles and is one of the defense's most important players. Playing in front of a home crowd, watch for the linebacker to be all over the field against this potent Black Bears offense.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
