Johns Hopkins (1-0) gained 523 yards of total offense in a 38-14 victory at Randolph-Macon (0-1) on Saturday.

Quarterback Robbie Matey finished 31-for-42, completing passes to 11 receivers for 318 yards with two early touchdown passes. Running back JD Abbott rushed for 60yards and two touchdowns in the season-opening victory.

Abbott caught a 19-yard pass from Matey on fourth-and-3 to keep a key touchdown drive alive in the third quarter. Abbott scored from 2 yards out to give Hopkins a 21-7 lead.

The Blue Jays, who are ranked in the top 20 in three preseason polls, including 17th by, had 35 first downs.

Christopher Newport 17, Salisbury 10: Quarterback Marcus Morrast threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes in a road victory at Salisbury.

A field goal in the third quarter and a touchdown pass by Morrast pass early in the fourth put the Captains in front until a 22-yard field goal from Jack Molloy tied the game at 10.

Captains receiver Paul Dukes caught an 18-yard touchdown pass with 15 seconds left to seal the victory.

Bowie State 42, St. Anselm 28:Bowie State broke a 28-all tie in the fourth quarter as quarterback Jared Johnston completed two touchdown passes in a season-opening victory at St. Anselm.

Johnston led the way with 307 total yards (192 passing, 115 rushing). He opened the scoring with a rushing touchdown with 10:16 left in the first quarter and completed a 4-yard pass to Nyme Manns with 7:57 left in the game to take the lead for good.

Catholic 48, McDaniel 16: Catholic gained 553 total yards on offense to beat host McDaniel.

The Cardinals (1-0) led the Green Terror (0-1) at halftime 34-3. Joe Rollins rushed for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Geneva 47, Frostburg State 3: Host Geneva scored touchdowns on five of its first six possessions in its season opener against Frostburg State.

Keith Smith led the Bobcats (0-1) with 10 solo tackles.


Stevenson 19, N.C. Wesleyan 9: Freshman Trey Lee rushed for 132 yards and Madison Townley caught a 13-yard touchdown pass to help lift the host Mustangs (1-0) past the Battling Bishops (0-1).

The Mustangs trailed 9-3 late in the third quarter when quarterback John Gasparovic threw his only touchdown pass of the game to Townley to take the lead for good. A 30-yard field goal by Charlie Cornell put the game out of reach with 56 seconds left.
