Morgan State football seeks first win at South Carolina State

MORGAN STATE (0-4, 0-1 MEAC) @ SOUTH CAROLINA STATE (1-3, 0-2)

When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Site: Oliver C. Dawson Stadium, Orangeburg, S.C.

TV: ESPNU

Radio: 88.9 FM

Series: South Carolina State leads 30-6-1

What’s at stake: One team will earn its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory. Coming off a bye week, the Bears have licked their wounds after four straight losses and should be set for South Carolina State, a team that has owned Morgan State in the past. The Bulldogs have won nine of their past 10 meetings and 18 of 21 games between the teams at home. Shut out in its first three games, Morgan State got on the board in a 49-17 loss to North Carolina A&T on Sept. 23. S.C. State fell to the same team last week, 21-7.

Key matchup: Bears quarterback Elijah Staley passed for 303 yards in his last game, but two of his three interceptions were returned for touchdowns. Hurried often, Staley now has his offensive line intact. He needs a breakout performance against the Bulldogs, who are allowing 192.5 passing yards per game.

Player to watch: Linebacker Darius Leonard, the 2016 MEAC Defensive Player of the Year and the Bulldogs’ all-time leader in tackles. He’s averaging more than 10 tackles a game and has two sacks to date.
