Hampton (3-5, 3-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) @ Morgan State (2-6, 2-2)

When: Saturday, 1 p.m.

Site: Hughes Stadium

Radio: 88.9 FM

Series: Morgan State leads 36-24-2

What's at stake: Last Saturday's 28-14 loss to Howard may have crippled Morgan State's hopes of remaining in contention in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Not only did the setback snap a modest two-game winning streak, but it also left the Bears two games behind first-place Bethune-Cookman (7-1, 4-0). To stay in the hunt, they can't afford another loss, and will also need some help from their rivals. But for now, their main focus is Hampton, which is tied with South Carolina State (5-3, 3-1) for second place in the league. While Morgan State holds a sizable advantage in this series, the Pirates have been the more dominant team lately, winning nine of the past 10 meetings. They are also riding a three-game winning streak. Hampton has dropped four of five road games this season, while the Bears are 1-1 at home.

Key matchup: Morgan State rushed for 206 yards and one touchdown in its loss to the Bison last Saturday. Redshirt freshman running back Lamont Brown III had 88 yards on 15 carries, and freshman Herb Walker Jr. rushed for 38 yards on six attempts. Considering the offense's instability at quarterback, a consistent game plan involving Brown and Walker could go a long way toward stabilizing a struggling offense.

Player to watch: It's all about the quarterback position. If a sprained right (throwing) shoulder continues to sideline junior Seth Higgins (Edgewood), either junior Robert Council or redshirt freshman Moses Skillon will line up under center. Neither player was particularly impressive against Howard, and the passing game must improve against the Pirates.
