Morgan State, Savannah State seek first football win Saturday

Savannah State (0-5, 0-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) @ Morgan State (0-5, 0-2)

When: Saturday, 1 p.m.

Site: Hughes Stadium

Video: Ch. 54, ESPN3

Radio: 88.9 FM

Series: Morgan State leads 9-0

What’s at stake: It’s homecoming at Morgan State, and what better time for the Bears to win their first game? They’ve never lost to Savannah State and the Tigers, riding an eight-game losing streak, have surrendered an average of 444 yards per game. On paper, it appears the type of contest to jump-start the Morgan State offense.

Key matchup: The Bears’ moribund ground game could perk up against a defense that’s allowing 5.4 yards per rush. Morgan State, led by veteran running backs Herb Walker Jr. and Eric Harrell, is averaging a paltry 2.1 yards per carry.

Player to watch: Malachi Washington, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound junior defensive end from Waldorf, has 16 tackles (7 for loss) and 3½ sacks for the Bears.
