Series: Akron leads 1-0
What's at stake: After a dramatic 30-27 overtime win over Sacred Heart to kick off the season, the Bears were brought back to earth with a 56-34 shredding at the hands of Buffalo. Saturday's game against Akron will be a test to see how much the defense can improve and how the Bears can respond after a tough loss. At 1-1, the Bears can either pull the upset to spring board to a big season or suffer another loss to shake their confidence heading into the conference schedule.
Key matchup: The Bears' chance of winning will come down to how well the secondary can defend against the pass-happy Zips. Akron quarterback Dalton Williams' seven touchdowns rank second nationally behind USC Heisman hopeful Matt Barkley's 10. Morgan State's defensive backs are giving up 265.5 yards a game and allowing 13.0 yards per catch. If the Bears can't slow down the reigning MAC East Division Player of the Week, they will be in for a long game.
Player to watch: Andrew King (Atholton) is turning into the go-to wide receiver for the Bears. The second-year player from Columbia leads the Bears in receiving (117), catches (seven), and the highest yards per catch (16.1). If King, who hauled in a 44-yard touchdown pass in last week's loss to Buffalo, can take advantage of a suspect Akron secondary, he could have a big game.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
