Navy athletic spokesman Scott Strasemeier said Sunday night that he received a text message from Montalvo's family saying that "he showed more improvement today" but that he remains in the medically-induced coma.
No other details were available.
Strasemeier said that Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo learned about the accident Friday night and flew down to be with his player Saturday.
Five of Montalvo’s teammates who were in the area for Thanksgiving have visited the hospital.
Montalvo was expected to dress for the upcoming Army-Navy game in Philadelphia on Dec. 8 after being promoted from the scout team to third string.
Strasemeier said that Niumatalolo will address the media about the accident following practice Monday in Annapolis.
