Todd Bozeman trying to keep Morgan State focused

Morgan State lost a game that coach Todd Bozeman says the Bears shouldn’t have on Monday. They came out flat against Delaware State (8-18, 4-9 MEAC), a team they took too lightly.

“[My players] realize they let one slip away on Monday,” said Bozeman, whose team is 11-14 (9-4) with three regular-season games reamaining. “They realize that. That is probably an eye-opener for them. It may be good to get us refocused as we finish up the conference schedule.”

For now, Bozeman warns that the conference tournament is still a long way off, and the Bears need to stay focused on getting better.

“I want to get better defensively and we have to rebound more,” Bozeman said. “Also, when teams change defenses you want to be able to get into your offensive flow more smoothly. I think our guys have done a good job with that, but there is also room for improvement.

“I really get a big kick out of seeing the guys get better and seeing them come together and seeing the guys grow and start to understand the game even better.“

The Bears expect to have junior forward Thair Heath back Saturday when they face Bethune-Cookman. Heath, who suffered a concussion and was taken off the court in an ambulance after a collision in the Bears’ 82-77 win over Coppin State on Feb. 10, has been cleared to play and treturned to practice Wednesday.

After facing Bethune-Cookman (6-23, 4-10), Morgan State finishes the regular season against Florida A&M (12-16, 8-7) and Howard (6-21, 4-8).

“This will be the first time we see the Florida schools at all,” Bozeman said. “Obviously, we already saw Howard, but it was the first conference game. We haven’t seen them since then. So, it is kind of a preview of what we could possibly see the following week [at the MEAC tournament].”
